The Eclectic and Psychic Archetypes
an overview of the aspects of each Archetype that set them apart in the list. Discussing both Eclectic and Psychic forms of practice.
Embodying the Eclectic
When exploring Witch Archetypes and learning their nuances, we may feel a calling toward practices or rituals that don’t fit a standard mold. If this sounds like your experience, worry not, dear reader, you may be an Eclectic or Psychic Witch.
The Eclectic Witch draws inspiration from every corner of the craft, weaving together a practice entirely their own. Unbound by a single path, they intuitively gather what resonates, crafting a dynamic, ever-evolving system that reflects their unique personality, energy, and needs in each season of life.
The Psychic Witch hones their power and talent around the arts of divination and communing with the spirits and forces around them. Their tools center around aids in retrieving information and interpreting messages sent from the unseen
The Eclectic Witch uses intuition as their compass, guiding them toward what feels most right. This freeform style of the craft allows the individual to create a practice that is uniquely their own, blending elements from various traditions and archetypes. The Eclectic Witch may have a special appreciation for pursuing knowledge and experimentation to discover what resonates with them. This limitless curiosity encourages the Eclectic to trust their inner knowing and move fearlessly in their practice.
The Eclectic Altar
Because the Eclectic Witch draws inspiration and power from various teachings, their altar may include an array of tools that are seen across the archetypes. This fluid approach to maintaining a sacred space allows the Eclectic Witch to continue exploration while remaining rooted in their intuition.
An Eclectic Witch's Altar is uniquely their own, blending elements of magic that speak to them intuitively. These elements may include crystals and herbs used in healing practices, tarot or other divination tools to strengthen intuition, or even more traditional items (see The Ceremonial Witch). An eclectic altar evolves with time and changes with the seasons of the practitioner's life, always focusing on what aligns most with their intention and intuition.
Likewise, the Eclectic Witch may have multiple altars spread throughout their domain, turning multiple rooms into focal points for practice. Each altar typically has a specific purpose, placed strategically to serve the most good. This is an excellent way to express multiple beliefs and opinions without overlapping or interfering with one belief or another.
Similarly, Psychic Witches use their unique personal talents to connect with the world around them. They open themselves to all beliefs and every form of spirit in this universe and welcome them into their system. Psychic witches do not usually adhere to one system in particular. Communing with spirits is a talent that fills the gap between beliefs. The existence of spirits is not denied, regardless of religion.
Psychic witches communicate through feeling, sensation, and subtle notions with the gods and the universe. Energy frequency and vibrations are also part of that psychic gift and talent. They use these cues and symbols to guide them through life, their craft, and how they assist others around them. In my experience, the psychic witch is the most burdened by their passion for the craft. They often find themselves at the mercy of the spirit and doing the spirit's bidding as it were. While being in a unique position to help others, this does not always feel like such a gift.
Psychic Witches use methods of divination to practice their craft. This includes various tools such as
Tarot
Scrying mirrors
Pendulums
Candles
Tea leaves
Palm lines
Crystal Balls
Incense smoke
Bowls of water
Their tools are designed to help the psychic witch go deep within themselves to be open to receiving information from the unseen. One of the most valuable tools the psychic witch uses is their intuition. The intuition of a witch is how we decipher and observe messages from the unseen and the ephemeral that use languages without words.
Psychic witches use the surrendered state of mind to expand their awareness mentally. This allows them to receive more information about the active world than is ordinarily possible. Through the surrendered mind state, our awareness can communicate with spirit more meaningfully without the ego of intellect confusing what constitutes communication and what is just “personal thought”. This beautiful union of faith and trust sets the psychic witch apart from the magical crowd.
