out with the bad
Cleansing magic is its own kind of protection. If we keep our bodies our spaces and our auras clean, we are much better functioning individuals. Ones who are more completely connected.
The original title of this piece was Cleanses. But that title doesn’t describe what I am trying to convey correctly. Out with the bad fits perfectly because that’s exactly what we do when cleaning our bodies, spaces, and auras. We are removing the bad and the unwanted, cleansing it away, and sanctifying space and self once more. Purifying the spirit and rejuvenating the soul and the environment in which the soul thrives. We collect a lot of energy as we go about our daily life. We are walking magnets. We attract vibrations and the trouble is when we attract vibrations our bodies don’t pick and choose. There are just as many negative vibrations as positive vibrations. Over time that build-up begins to wear us down.
To cleanse the body we must approach that magically in the same way we do nutritionally. We must consider what is being put into our bodies. What we ingest plays a big role in the way our bodies feel. The herbs used to cleanse toxins from the body have many health benefits that are reflected in our unique frequency. Those benefits also double as magical properties. The cleaner our internal system is, the better our unique frequency becomes. This includes foods such as ginger, garlic, turmeric, cinnamon, thyme, rosemary, etc. This also includes drinks like tea, water, juice, and broth to name a few. All those foods and drink options have their respective health benefits and we can utilize those. By letting the intention to improve our internal system flow into the preparation of the food or beverage we are charging those items with purpose. Telling them to cleanse and recharge the body from the inside out. Organic items come from the earth, and the earth is a magical place. There is so much power in the abundance of the earth. It selflessly provides the beneficial nutrients and cleansing sustenance we need and desire. When we ingest the healing food from the earth after charging it with the intention we are taking control of the cleansing process and refining it. Ensuring a far more accurate outcome customized to provide us with maximum benefits.
Cleansing the space you live in is just as important as maintaining the balance within the body. I like using the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram to cleanse and protect the interior space I live in. The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram is a powerful cleansing rite that clears and protects space. I have provided a reference link at the end of this post with step-by-step instructions. This is a cleansing ritual that has been adopted by many different belief systems, and there are several variations of it. It is strong but simple and it doesn’t require any tools. I want to talk with you about the reasons behind why it works though so you understand that much more about its power and where that comes from.
LBRP works because of the amount of sacred and elemental energy that is gathered up within the working. It requires visualization and a deeply felt connection with what you are bringing forth. The LBRP uses the Hebrew language which is spoken with cadence and feeling, the sounds coming from the throat. This causes us to use our vocal cords differently, and they vibrate with energy when we do this, and again because this ritual is used by so many there is power in the process that has been built up over time, repeatedly sanctified, and made protective. Visualization comes in when you are facing each cardinal direction and using energy to draw out pentagrams, each one for each direction is a different color, and visualizing the energy in those colors is important. I have talked about giving energy color. Color is associated with different purposes and frequencies of energy or power. Visualizing energy that has color is important for this reason.
Of course, the LBRP is only one example of how to cleanse the space you live in. Smudging is the act of cleansing with sacred herbs such as sage to clear a space. Sage and other herbs like rosemary can be burned and the smoke is used to clear the space around someone or within the home, a person lives in. Some woods are used for cleansing as well, the two most popular types being cedar and palo santo wood. The smoke gives off a sweeter smell and the fragrance leaves a powerful impression on you and the space. It can be felt during the initial smudging and for long periods afterward. Smudging can also be used to cleanse a person’s aura or energy. This is another effective way to banish the negative energy cluttered within your aura. This happens, especially when we are stressed, angry, or depressed. Those emotional states generate a lot of powerful energy but it is energy that feeds on misery inside the soul and spirit. Carrying that around with us is not healthy. It can affect our moods and our thoughts.
The Native Americans believe sage is a very sacred herb. Powerful for cleansing the body’s aura and protecting a space. To smudge your aura or someone else’s the sage or incense is set on the ground and the individual walks through the smoke column as they verbally banish the negative energy from within them. This is done several times, the traditional belief being when the sage or incense has stopped burning, there is nothing left to banish. Alternatively, the individual can stand still as someone else conducts a cleansing ritual around them. Smudging their aura in a circular motion. This can be done with resins as well that are considered sacred or powerful. Dragon’s blood is considered a powerful resin that is used to cleanse a space. Keep in mind that the incense or cleansing herb burned matters. Some entities and deities don't like the smoke from certain things. A lot of dark things have a strong distaste for sage. If you work with darker forces I want to re-iterate how important it is to know which incense to burn and which to leave alone. Insulting powerful forces is a terrible idea. Even if done unintentionally. They generate out of the energy and essences available in the space, the wrong ones have damaging effects on their aethereal form. It isn't just a simple insult when the wrong incense or herb is used in a rite.
Sweeping your house is also a form of cleansing magic. If the house is swept clockwise with the windows and doors open it cleanses the space of all negative built-up energy. I call this sweeping out the shit. The dirt is swept out the open door symbolizing what would be the number twelve on a clock. This is an ancient tradition. One I choose to carry on in my own house every chance I get. I do live in a region of the world where our winter prevents opening the windows and doors for any long period but almost year round this is how I clean my house. I choose the doorway that stands in as twelve on the clock, and then I work clockwise through my house, cleaning each area as I go and sweeping the floors, and when I finally get back to 12, I sweep out the dirt and if I was washing walls that day, I dump the dirty water out the door as well. I love magic like this. It feels so powerful as you carry it out and after the physical cleaning is done, the space retains that clean feeling for long periods afterward. The space will feel welcoming, lighter, and maybe even brighter. No, you aren’t crazy, this is just what cleansing a space will do. When the intention and reason behind the cleaning is to remove the negative energy, the work is very powerful. The positive upbeat feelings of accomplishment afterwards multiply that positive force and those positive emotions. I struggle with depression which can often make mundane tasks such as maintaining a dwelling feel almost impossible at times. My magic pulls me out of those states better than anything else, better than prescription meds ever did, and it helps me maintain my space, my emotions, and my mood. The power of cleansing a space does so much more than bring the energy within back to a neutral state. It is good for the soul and the mind.Â
Conducting cleansing rites is part of magic and energy work. Most of the energy work we do for ourselves and others will include a cleansing rite of some kind. Keeping things clean, balanced, and or neutral is very important. I know it sounds like there isn’t a place for the negative but that’s not true. The place for the negative is in our reactions and emotions. It comes out of those in-the-moment responses, and its useful there. When it comes to everywhere else, balance is more important, and cleaning up the bright spots matters in our lives. The moment we feel least inclined to conduct a cleansing rite is the moment it is most needed. I want you to remember that because sometimes we get so stuck in those lower emotions and the cycles they throw us into it’s really hard to get out of them. This is why we cleanse and why it’s so powerful and important. It will help bring you up out of those cycles and help you start feeling better.
