Identifying and weaving your personal frequency
A reflective piece on the ways witches weave and work their magic in ways that speak to who they are as people. Magic manifests differently for everyone, there is no clear path, we are all unique.
Energy is power, but that truth only grazes the surface. What can be done with it—and how you might learn to work with it in the ways that suit you best- comes from more than just understanding energy. Each of us has particular frequencies of power that resonate more deeply and respond more readily to our ability to weave and manipulate flow. There is a sweet spot where your workings align, where intention and current meet seamlessly and their effects become unmistakably potent.
Sometimes, power moves in subtle ways. Subtle magic would then be the most fitting approach—learning to use quiet frequencies to achieve significant results and to develop a system of personal actions and responses that use your talents entirely and build actual skill. Subtle magic for some might involve what plants they grow inside their homes, and for that matter, in what rooms. Or it might be the way they make themselves available to their friends and loved ones in times of need, because there is an exchange taking place in those moments that works magic in real time. Subtle magic is just that, it’s soft, quiet magic, often woven into acts of kindness, prudence, and service.
For others, individual zones of power are obvious, almost bold by comparison. These conspicuous currents can be challenging because the practitioner must learn to harness their own strength and resist the temptation to overuse a spell. Yet the magic that comes easily to someone with bold power tends to be eye-catching—attention-grabbing, sudden, dramatic, even over-the-top solutions. Those who work magic in bold ways are often at the center of events and parties. Quintessential givers to causes and friends. They are never at a loss for adding flair to any situation. Sometimes, this only shows up in their personality; it’s not always outwardly projected. These types of witches choose to be seen rather than live in the corners of life’s tapestry. That kind of power or magic is woven into the actions that grab focus and attention. The magic is designed to accumulate energy from those frequencies, all the while being programmed for the caster’s intentions.
Magic is meant to be a creative process that grows more intimate and personal with time and practice. Experimentation helps pinpoint which techniques actually work. When they do, those experiments reveal how well each method performs, which ones deliver better results, and how to refine them so they fit your personal style. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Crafting custom spells with ingredients chosen through wisdom and intuition is one of the most engaging and rewarding parts of a magical practice. Many of us played mad scientist in the bathroom as children, mixing soaps and creams to see what would happen. Magic is much the same.
To help beginners ease into their magical journey, try starting with a few simple, safe experiments. Infusing water with intention is a gentle practice in which you hold a glass of water and focus on a specific positive thought or goal before drinking it. Observe how that influences your mood for the day or your success in achieving tasks that week. Another exercise could be creating a small charm bag with herbs like lavender and mint for peace and clarity. These basic practices can boost confidence and help you comfortably explore more complex techniques over time. Recording and reflecting on how well these experiments work for you is a good way to track growth, progress, and the direction your magic is taking in your life.
Enjoying your magical practice is one of the most apparent signs that a technique or style fits your personality and talents. While magic should be approached with a deep respect for cause and effect, it should also be a source of genuine pleasure—an outgrowth of your interests, passions, and, often, your personal calling. The aspects of the world that spark your inspiration are clues to the frequency that speaks to you above all others. The moments that stir a robust emotional response become the capstone resources of power in your magic.
I draw my power from sustainable practices. What I mean by that is, my magic is worked through methods that are low impact, can be repeated at leisure, and take minimal from my surroundings that can’t be replaced. The frequencies that speak to me most are those with strong yet steady currents. I work with plants in both their living and dried states, and I often use substrates such as soil, sand, and pebbles. I gather from nature regularly for my spells. My personal power is rooted in themes of stability, continual yet sustainable growth, and balance. I use the currents I respond to best in ways that fit my needs and desires.
However, not everyone may find their power in nature-based practices, and that’s normal. I encourage you to reflect on your own environments and interests to identify what resonates most with you. Perhaps you live in an urban setting and feel drawn to the city's energy, or you might find comfort and power in the quiet of a library or the buzz of an art studio. The key is to tap into what feels like a piece of you and adapt these methods to your unique circumstances. Your personal zone of power can be anything from the digital realm of computers to the craftsmanship of woodworking. Explore, try new things, and let your surroundings guide you in discovering your own sustainable practices that align with your goals and lifestyle.
For example, when I cook to heal my body during a cold or period of injury. I utilize balanced recipes with equal but varied amounts of nutrition, using ingredients that align with the energies and sympathetic links I’m accessing to heal myself or relieve physical symptoms. By adding my frequency to the plants’ frequencies, I enhance their natural powers, amplifying their effects. I organize and align my spellwork with my full frequency. This allows my magic to take the path of least resistance, ensuring better results.
If I need a project to go smoothly, I spend time working on an afghan blanket. The smooth motion of crocheting the stitches echoes the soft, continuous steps I take to see the project to completion. I focus on the work or task I need to complete while I add to the blanket. I don’t have to finish the blanket for the magic to work, but I have to provide physical action that echoes a similar current appropriately. Simply smoothing out a sheet of paper or fabric would not offer the same link as working on a physical project with smooth, regular steps. Crochet is an activity I find immensely rewarding. I give my creations away, usually to those who need them, and it gives me joy to see them well received in return. The hobby has provided an outlet for me, not just from stress, but as a way to apply my power and talent in my craft. I work my magic in the ways that align with who I am. I make use of the frequencies I gravitate to most, the themes that have long entanglements with my personality, style, and taste.
My tactics are examples of what I’m trying to portray. Your magic works best when the power is aligned, balanced, and working with the magical currents being borrowed, tapped into, or utilized. When multiple frequencies are combined that do not complement each other, they can cancel eachother out. Focused will and clear intention help neutralize bad reactions. Understanding where your power lies and finding ways to use it efficiently helps reduce the need to strong-arm a spell or cast and hope for the best.
Remember, mistakes are a natural part of the learning process, and they can provide valuable lessons in honing your craft. If you ever find that your magic feels off or unbalanced, try a simple grounding technique like taking a few deep breaths or stepping outside to connect with nature. This can help reset your energies and bring you back to a centered state. Embrace these moments as opportunities to grow and deepen your understanding of your personal power.
