The Solitary Witch prefers to work independently. Not out of loneliness, but rather freedom from outside expectations. This path is deeply personal, intuition-led, and self-reliant.
The Solitary Witch’s journey is one of self-discovery through trial and error, weaving together elements that reflect the wholeness of their essence. Every action, whether grand or small, contributes to the sovereignty of their spirit and the authenticity of their magic.
Drawing inspiration from both the old ways of the wise ones who came before and the new voices rising in the collective, the Solitary Witch lives in the quiet moments of connection with the world within and around them. Their practice does not have to be flouncy, for it is rooted in deep inner knowing that honors their deepest truth.

The Solitary Path
The Solitary Witch wears many hats. Unlike the other archetypes, which can find guidance through community, the Solitary Witch finds structure and guidance from the space between paths. This archetype is more efficient at holding and forming a personal moral compass that aligns with all paths and stays true to the individual. Knowledge and inspiration come from everywhere in their worlds.
The hermit embodies this archetype in tarot. The hermit secludes themselves from the world to study the universe's secrets and understand the forces behind creation and manifestation. This is what drives the solitary witch: the search for understanding and knowledge that they can interpret and apply to their lives in a way that elevates them in physical and intellectual ways, as well as for the sake of knowledge itself.
Solitary Witchcraft in History
Many revolutionary practitioners were solitary witches during their formative years of seeking information. Some magical minds remained solitary until they passed, and their writing was only brought to the world. Their insights and revelations were finally shared with the masses. For instance, King Solomon was a solitary witch. While he was mentioned in biblical texts, his writings and discoveries were not published and revealed to others until many years after his passing. * I realize there is debate about the physical existence of this person; however, the magical system that thrives due to King Solomon is valid, albeit pseudepigraphically*
The Magic in Walking Alone
There is a beautiful strength in the solitary path of the witch. It takes courage to carve out a path in the wilderness. The solitary witch starts from a point inside the center, and every direction is the right path. There is no wrong choice, but that also means there are almost too many, and dredging ahead by simply choosing one route at a time signifies a conviction and determination to understand and learn that comes from inner strength that refuses to be waivered. This strength and freedom allow a practitioner to install roots deep into the beliefs and techniques that make their soul sing while ignoring all that would corrupt or go against who they are.
Tools of the Solitary Witch
The Solitary Witch finds power in what resonates most deeply, gathering tools that support their unique practice. These tools are as simple or as elaborate as they wish:
Herbs & crystals to call in healing and protection.
Incense & oils to clear the mind and set intention.
Tarot or oracle cards to guide intuition.
Natural elements—stones, feathers, rainwater—gifts of the earth that speak to their spirit.
