Element Of Water ; Personal Insights And Observations.
This is the product of reflections and personal ruminations on lessons learned from previous work with the element of water. There have been many times where I have turned myself into its currents.
As I began writing this article on water, I noticed that many of the themes revolved around overcoming resistance and purifying the mind, body, and space. The link between overcoming resistance and purification stems from the way we use water and the ways we see it used by other beings in the world. It comes from the idea that we are born pure; the amniotic fluid in which every fetus develops is termed water at the point of labor. Water is known to burst dams, carve new routes for itself out of the land, and erode hard stone to make way for itself.
Water is linked with life. Water breaks in labor, and life flows after. The birth water is pure, protective, and nourishing. We come into this world pristine. Birth is one source where we form a sympathetic link between life and water, as well as between water and purity. The sympathetic link gives the mind and spirit an anchor in cleansing work; there is a known connection between these two things, and so the energy and the magic come together without issue or clashing frequency.
There is more to the idea that water is pure than just the association with labor and the birth of life. Water is also linked with life because of cultural beliefs. Primordial waters are the creation story of how the earth came to be in the Grimoire of Tiamet, separating into the waters and the space between the waters, and the world formed in the space between. The direct observation of what happens when the rain falls and the sun returns also supports the sympathetic link. Life grows with water's help; life needs water to sustain itself. So you see, this concept is supported through various facets of life and the way of nature on this planet.
The sympathetic link to the purity of water lends its creative energy to the formation of another link to water. Cleansing energy is associated with Water because Water is seen as something pure and nurturing. That association we form in our minds is supported by the sympathetic link already formed through knowledge and observation. By doing so, we transform cleansing into more than just a simple act; it becomes an intentional and affirmative action that works in conjunction with the psychology of linking objects to memory tags or images for recollection. Cleansing involves taking deliberate action to firmly impress frequency onto the unwelcome or unwanted clutter that accumulates within or outside of us and our aura. Done with water, symbolically but also physically, so that the clutter we are washing ourselves clean of leaves through the path of least resistance. Cleansing when done this way evokes the power of the primordial waters to wash us clean.
While water is helpful in all the methods in which we employ its assistance to cleanse and reset, there is another characteristic of water—the devastating and terrifying force of this element. The power of water is capable of wearing away stone, carving rivers out of dry land, and bringing torrential flooding that can wipe away a town in seconds. The earliest civilizations were known to hug the coasts of the oceans and rivers, knowing how devastating the water could be. They saw the water as both a source of life and something to have deep respect and reverence for. The Egyptians of ancient Egypt tracked the flooding of the Nile. They knew the flooding brought fertile soil to their lands, which they needed to farm the crops to survive. Water has always been something we have taught ourselves to live in harmony with because its power to destroy is unavoidable. How do we harness the destructive power of water effectively without washing ourselves away?
We embrace that devastation. There are times in life when we need destruction to break free of self-built prisons. Moments when the flow of energy into our lives requires serious rerouting and disruption because the current source has stagnated or reduced its contribution. Water's ability to reroute itself and destroy landscapes with the ferocity of its current make it an excellent aid in changing patterns, processing emotions, overcoming resistance in life, and getting past feeling stagnant or stuck. It is to these areas of life that we apply the destructive, terrifying force that water possesses.
By invoking the essence of water into ourselves, without the ego resisting or trying to control the outcome, we teach ourselves to let go and trust the flow. The trust or emphatic knowing is placed on that sympathetic link between the knowledge of water's capabilities and the metaphysical way the energy is directed. The essence of water's force can be applied to the blocks that form within. The raging rapids of water's power burst through that which holds back energy, potential, or personal power(because energy and personal power are not the same) and allow a current to be re-established. This encourages further and more progressive restoration and growth. However, it begins with letting go.
The destructive force of water is only one phase in a series of events. Once we invoke the power of water to clear away that which has left us stuck, we have to learn from water how to flow with life again. The old current no longer exists; the barriers have been destroyed. Now, the process of rediscovery begins by understanding where personal current flows after destroying blocks and becoming adaptable to benefit from change. Water has an amazing ability to lie inert in one spot until it overflows. Remarkably, it just knows how to move, how to flow, and overcome barriers in its path simply by altering direction slightly and then returning to the route of least resistance. The nature in which water behaves is how water helps us, and it's what we learn from as we work with its currents and natural essence. At the very least, this is what I have learned from working with this element over the years.
From what I can tell, the power to restore the flow of life touches EVERYTHING. Flow is everywhere. The nature of life is to grow and expand/flow. Water reminds us of that. Being fluid opens many doors in life. Some of the most accomplished people I know have reached their success because they knew how to adapt and go with the flow of their lives, making the most out of every opportunity that came their way. They learned how to move with the current of life and view barriers as merely boulders in the stream, which can be easily navigated with a simple redirect.
Water is life-giving, purifying, destructive, fluid, and capable of amazing things. It helps us feel more enlivened with the current of life when we surrender ourselves unto its depths. Water, as an element, has numerous profound ways of improving life through both gentle and harsh currents. Yet its frequency at all times remains one of nurture and benevolence. Even when water is terrifying and destructive, what comes after the storm always grows bigger than before, due to the life-giving essence of the water itself. By surrendering to the current water brings to us, we improve our lives by welcoming the flow of energy within and outside of ourselves, embracing the unknown that can come at any moment, and finding ways to bend and flex with obstacles.
